What We Believe
Our Beliefs
Renowned preacher A.W. Tozer once expressed that our thoughts about God shape the very essence of who we are.
Because of this, churches have long upheld the practice of crafting statements of belief to clearly convey their understanding of God.
To ensure clarity, these statements often use specific language that might seem formal or traditional. However, they simply reflect what we at The New Bluffton Worship believe about God. We recognize that not all beliefs carry the same importance. While there is room for diverse views on various issues (the “non-essentials of the faith”), certain core beliefs are foundational to Christianity and have been held by the Church throughout history (the “essentials of the faith”). God calls us to unity in the essentials (Ephesians 4:4-6), while in the non-essentials, we are given the freedom to differ (Romans 14:1-4, 12, 22).
That being said, you don’t have to agree with everything to be part of our community. If you’re uncertain about some of the beliefs outlined below, you’re still welcome here. We’re grateful that you’re choosing to explore faith with us.
Our Beliefs About
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. It is the foundation for our faith and practice, guiding us in all matters of life and spirituality.
We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testament, to be the inspired Word of God; true in the original writings; the complete revealing of our Lord’s will for salvation; and the divine authority for Christian faith and all of life. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says it best:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Our Beliefs About
God
We believe in one God who is the Creator of all things, eternally existing and infinitely perfect in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Our Beliefs About
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, he was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins. He physically rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven where He is at the right hand of God the Father, He is our High Priest and our Advocate. In the person of the Holy Spirit, He dwells and lives within us as followers of Jesus.

Our Beliefs About
The Holy Spirit
We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, to convict, regenerate (bring to new life), seal, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for Godly living and service. We believe our inward and outward response to the Holy Spirit is best described as “The Means of Grace.”
Our Beliefs About
Salvation
We believe that salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received only through faith in Jesus Christ. His atoning death and resurrection provide the way of salvation, and through Him, we are reconciled to God.

Our Beliefs About
Sanctification
We believe in the process of sanctification, where believers are called to grow in holiness through the work of the Holy Spirit. This is a journey of becoming more like Christ in our thoughts, actions, and character.
At the same moment we are forgiven and justified before God, Sanctification begins. Our main goal is to reflect the character of Christ more fully in daily life.
Our Beliefs About
The Church
We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, called to live out Christ’s mission in the world. As an independent church with Wesleyan roots, we are committed to fostering a community that reflects the love of Christ, making disciples, sharing the Good News and serving our neighbors in Bluffton, The Lowcountry and beyond. Simply put we believe we transform our world-as a community of faith-when we worship together, learn together, and serve Jesus Christ together.

Our Beliefs About
Grace & Free Will
We believe in the prevenient grace of God that goes before us, calling us to Him. We affirm that human beings have free will to accept or reject God’s offer of salvation, a reflection of our Wesleyan heritage.
When we receive God’s grace, it changes us. The grace that is free makes us responsive to what God calls us to be and do.
Our Beliefs About the
Sacraments
We believe in the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are outward signs of inward grace, instituted by Christ and essential to the life of the believer.

We Affirm the
Creeds
We affirm the main creeds that the Church has held for hundreds of years. And while we have a contemporary worship style, we often include The Lord’s Prayer and use forms of The Great Thanksgiving for Communion.
