In the quiet moments of inspiration, when dreams and visions collide, a new name emerged—a name that resonated with purpose and carried the weight of eternity. The New Bluffton Worship—a beacon of hope, a testament to grace, and a reminder of the cross.
The Power of “Thee”
“Why ‘Thee’?” I asked the visionary who shared his thoughts with me about a name for our church. His eyes sparkled with conviction. “Because ‘Thee’ holds the essence of redemption,” he replied. “In that simple word, I see the first letter—the most important letter—‘T.’ And ‘T’ reminds me of the cross.”
The cross—the intersection of pain and love, suffering and salvation. Jesus, arms outstretched, bearing our burdens, whispering, “Let me take your pain, your worry. Let me save you. Let me love you.” The greatest message we can share with the world is the cross.
Foolishness and Life-Changing Power
To some, the cross is foolishness—a stumbling block. But the Apostle Paul embraced this “foolishness” and declared, “Let’s be fools for Christ!” For within the cross lies the power of God—a life-changing force that unites us, transcending differences and leading us to a better place. In our worship space, we have a cross that was made from the bar top that used to be in the bar we now occupy. Who would have imagined! At one time that would have sounded silly to the customers who bellied up to it.
The Logo: A Divine Arrangement
As the name settled in our hearts, another miracle unfolded—the logo. A collaboration of inspiration and creativity. BW—the essence of Bluffton Worship—condensed, refined, and infused with meaning. But it needed something more.
I had been working on logo ideas using the letters of our name and had put a cross at the end of the logo. My daughter, Campbell, stepped in—a young artist with eyes wide open to God’s design. She shifted the cross from the far right where I had sketched it to the middle of the W. There it stood—a divine arrangement. The New Bluffton Worship—the cross at its heart, its core. Pointing upward. The cross which makes all things NEW: Do you see the N within the W at the base of the cross in the logo? God continually makes all things new so that serving him never gets old.
The Center of All We Do
May we always point to the cross—the symbol of sacrifice, redemption, and love. Let it be our foundation, our unifying force. When we struggle to explain Jesus, let us turn to the cross. When theological questions arise, let the cross be our answer.
The New Bluffton Worship—a name, a logo, a mission. In the center, the cross—the T-shaped reminder of grace. As we gather to worship, learn, serve and live, may it always be about Him—the One who hung on that cross, forever changing our story.
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.”
(1 Corinthians 1:18)
