A Reflection on Our Recent Sermon Series at The New Bluffton Worship

Have you ever looked back at your life and thought, “Well, that certainly didn’t go the way I planned!” Maybe it was a relationship, a job, a season of parenting, or just trying to make it through a Monday without losing your patience before 9 a.m.

Life has a funny way of changing on us. Sometimes we welcome those changes with open arms, and other times we dig our heels in and say, “Lord, are You SURE about this?”

Over the past several weeks at The New Bluffton Worship, we’ve been walking through the book of Philippians in our sermon series, “When Jesus Changes…” And if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that when Jesus steps into our lives, He doesn’t just change one little thing. He changes the way we see, love, live, and move forward.

When Jesus Changes Your Perspective (Philippians 1)

We started by looking at how Jesus changes the way we see our circumstances. Paul was writing from prison, yet somehow he was still filled with joy and hope. Talk about having a good attitude! Most of us struggle to find joy when we’re stuck in traffic or the grocery store is out of our favorite coffee creamer.

Paul reminds us that our circumstances don’t have to determine our outlook. Sometimes God is doing something incredible that we simply can’t see yet. When Jesus changes our perspective, we begin looking for God’s purpose instead of focusing only on our problems.

When Jesus Changes Your Relationships (Philippians 2)

Next, we explored what happens when we stop making everything about ourselves. (Ouch! That one stepped on a few toes, didn’t it?)

Paul encouraged us to practice humility, put others first, and love like Jesus. Whether it’s our marriage, friendships, family, coworkers, or church family, relationships look different when we choose grace over pride and kindness over being right.

Jesus doesn’t call us to perfect relationships. He calls us to love people the way He loves us.

When Jesus Changes Your Priorities (Philippians 3)

Let’s face it. We are busy people! Our calendars are full, our to-do lists never seem to end, and sometimes we’re so focused on getting everything done that we forget what really matters.

Paul reminds us that knowing Christ is worth more than anything else we could accomplish or collect. When Jesus changes our priorities, we begin to understand that success isn’t measured by how much we do, but by how closely we walk with Him.

When Jesus Changes Your Purpose and Your Story (Philippians 4)

As we continued through Philippians 4, we were reminded that our purpose isn’t found in having the perfect plan or the perfect life. It’s found in trusting the One who walks with us through every season.

Paul teaches us about contentment, generosity, gratitude, and strength through Christ. Our stories may include unexpected turns, disappointments, and chapters we never would have written for ourselves. But God isn’t finished writing!

Our circumstances may change, but our calling to love, serve, and share Jesus remains.

The Series May Be Over, But God Isn’t Finished!

Here’s what I hope we all carry with us from these past several weeks: Jesus doesn’t just change our circumstances. He changes US.

He changes how we see the world, how we treat people, what we value, and how we live out our faith.

And the best part? We don’t have to have everything figured out for Him to keep working. Thank goodness, because some of us are still trying to figure out what we’re making for dinner tonight!

At The New Bluffton Worship, our mission is to Worship, Learn, and Serve Jesus Christ Together. This series has been a beautiful reminder that following Jesus isn’t just something we do on Sunday mornings. It’s something that shapes every part of our lives.

So, as we close this chapter in Philippians, let’s not close the door on what God has been teaching us.

Keep growing. Keep loving. Keep trusting. Keep showing up.

Because the sermon series may have ended, but Jesus is still changing everything. And He’s not finished with us yet!
